Eliza Zarka

Eliza serves as the Program Director of Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation, where she leads the National Recovery Friendly Workplace Institute, one of the initiatives housed under GRI, and leads efforts in nationally certifying employers as Recovery Friendly Workplaces.
She brings expertise from her previous role as Addiction & Behavioral Health Coordinator for the New Hampshire Governor’s Office, where she worked across prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery, including the NH Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative, now with over 350 participating businesses. Her goal, professionally and personally, is to help people be well, get well, and stay well.

Michael C. Barnes, Esq.

Michael C. Barnes, Esq., is Senior Advisor to the National Recovery Friendly Workplace Institute and Managing Attorney at Sequel Health Law. He advises clients on legal and regulatory matters involving opioids, cannabinoids, access to treatment, insurance coverage and payment, parity, privacy, digital health, recovery in the workplace, and correctional health care.
He is Chairman of the Center for U.S. Policy and previously served as confidential counsel in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. His research has been published in more than 15 legal, policy, and medical journals, and he is a recipient of the Federation of State Medical Boards’ Ray L. Casterline, M.D., Award for Excellence in Writing.

John Aguirre

John Aguirre is the Accounting Manager for Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation and has supported the organization in that role since 2018. He brings over forty years of financial knowledge and managerial experience from his work with other non-profit organizations, financial institutions, and private organizations, in positions ranging from Controller to consulting, Interim, and permanent Chief Financial Officer.

Jonathon Monto
Program & Administrative Assistant, Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation

Jonathon Monto is the Program & Administrative Assistant at Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation (GRI), which he supported for three years prior to its name change from the National Youth Recovery Foundation to GRI.
He majored in filmmaking and graphic design at the Art Institute International in Minnesota, started and managed a health care company, and later founded two businesses in Hawaii. He has been active in social change movements and now lives in St. Augustine, Florida, where he is also a ceramic artist.

Francesca Pece
Intern, Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation

Francesca is an intern with Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation, working on a number of projects for the National Recovery Friendly Workplace Institute. She is a student at Flagler College, double-majoring in Psychology and Biology and minoring in Coastal Environmental Science, and a member of Flagler’s Cross Country team.
She is passionate about behavioral health and plans to apply her research experience in resiliency to her work with the Institute, working toward her goal of earning a Master’s.
